Design, build quality and handling

Despite our initial objections about the plastic build, there is no two way about it – the Lumia 950 XL seems to have a proper premium build. The perfectly flat front is made of a huge Gorilla Glass 4 piece, which should keep the 5.7″ high-res AMOLED screen out of trouble

Controls

The big 5.7″ Quad HD AMOLED screen takes all of the attention at the front, but there are quite a few elements deserving attention elsewhere around the body.

Display

The Lumia 950 XL’s display is half an inch bigger than the one on the Lumia 950, but it keeps the same Quad HD resolution and uses a similar premium AMOLED panel. With a diagonal of 5.7-inches the screen is quite big, but thanks to the high resolution, the pixel density is superb at 518ppi.

Battery life

The Lumia 950 XL comes powered by a beefy 3,340 mAh battery, 10% bigger than the one inside the Lumia 950. The phone supports fast charging and can recharge up to 50% of the battery capacity in just 30 minutes. Wireless charging is available, too.

Windows 10 Mobile extended on a 5.7-inch display

Microsoft Lumia 950 XL is only the second smartphone to run on Windows 10 Mobile out of the box. It builds upon the established principles of Windows Phone 8 but comes with an entirely new OS core, very similar to the one inside the full-blown desktop Windows 10 and the Xbox One’s Windows 10. This is part of Microsoft’s strategy of unification among its device lineup and should help developers easily deploy apps across the different devices

20MP PureView camera

The Lumia 950 XL has the same camera as the Lumia 950 – a brand new PureView sensor. It uses a 1/2.4″ BSI sensor with 20MP resolution. In addition to the new sensor, it also comes with ZEISS-certified optics, an optical stabilization system and a triple-LED RGB flash (no more red-eyes). The ZEISS lens has a really wide 26mm equivalent field of view wide, as well as a really wide F/1.9 aperture.

Superb image quality

The Lumia 950 XL snaps class-leading 20MP shots, just like the Lumia 950, and they are among the best we’ve seen to date. The resolved detail is top-notch, there is no oversharpening and the noise levels are kept amazingly low even in the shadows. Therefore It is the best Windows Phone For Gaming.

2. Lumia 640 XL Dual SIM

Top 5 Smartphones Best For Gaming

Microsoft Lumia 640 Dual Sim

Display Size & Resolution5.7″ 720×1280 pixels
Camera Photo & Video13MP & 1080p
Ram & Chipset1GB RAM & Snapdragon 400
Battery Capacity & Technology3000 mAh & Li-lon

Key features

  • 5″ 16M-color ClearBlack IPS LCD display of 720p resolution, Gorilla Glass 3
  • Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 chipset with quad-core 1.2 GHz Cortex-A7 processor, Adreno 305 GPU and 1GB of RAM
  • Windows Phone 8.1 OS with Lumia Denim; updateable to Windows 10
  • Optional dual-SIM; optional LTE
  • 8MP autofocus camera with [email protected] video recording; 1MP/720p selfie camera
  • 8GB of inbuilt storage, expandable via a microSD card slot up to 128GB
  • Active noise cancelation with a dedicated mic
  • FM Radio with RDS
  • Li-Ion 2,500mAh battery

Display

The Nokia Lumia 640 has a 5″ LCD screen with 720 x 1,280px resolution. That works out to 297ppi, which doesn’t exactly qualify for Retina-grade (300+ppi), but it’s quite close nonetheless.

The Lumia 640 screen renders text and images smoothly. The text is not flagship sharp, but even small or thin fonts are readable, lacking the jaggies visible on older 5 and 6-series Lumia phones.

Battery

Some 5″ phones think they can get away with 2,000mAh batteries, but the Microsoft Lumia 640 knows better. At 2,500mAh it has as much juice as a Galaxy S6 and the results speak for themselves – you can go through three days of moderate usage before you need a charger.

Tiled user interface

The Lumia 640 is running the latest available Windows Phone 8.1 (Update 2) out of the box. The latest Lumia Denim software expansion package comes pre-installed, too. The Lumia 640 lineup was introduced together with the Windows 10, but the new OS isn’t ready yet for commercial release. Microsoft promises the Lumia 640 smartphones to be the first to get the Windows 10 firmware update though.

The 8MP camera is OK

Microsoft Lumia 640 LTE comes with an 8MP auto-focus camera, coupled with an LED flash though it lacks a dedicated camera key. The Lumia camera interface is very familiar – it offers white balance, focus, ISO, shutter speed up to 4s and exposure settings. You can choose between 8MP 4:3 mode and 6.7MP 16:9 samples, there are no other resolution options.

1080p video recording

The Lumia 640 LTE camcorder can record video at [email protected], with a solid 17Mbps bitrate and an unwavering 30fps. Sadly, videos are recorded in a single channel AAC mode with a 160Kbps bitrate and 48KHz.

The camcorder interface is pretty much the same as the still camera. It offers only white balance and manual focus settings, and also allows you to choose the audio bass filter (off, 100 Hz or 200 Hz). Opting for 200 Hz (Strong) will capture much better sound in concerts or clubs.

Design and build quality

The Nokia Lumia 930 features an aluminum frame covering the sides of the device, alongside a polycarbonate back panel that can come in a variety of colors, including orange, green, black and white.

The front is covered by Gorilla Glass 3 with a very slight tapered edge. The taper is very subtle, but surprisingly adds immensely to the look of the smartphone, and feels very pleasant to the touch.

Display

The Nokia Lumia 930 packs a 5-inch ClearBlack AMOLED display of 1080p resolution. The resulting pixel density of 441ppi is the highest ever for a Nokia Lumia device.

Battery life

The Nokia Lumia 930 is powered by a non-removable 2,420mAh battery. Official numbers provided by Nokia list the device as being capable of over 15 hours of 3G talk time and 18 days worth of standby. Naturally, we conducted our own battery test and the results are in.

Connectivity

The Nokia Lumia 930 comes with support for quad-band GSM, 3G, and LTE networks. Unlike its Lumia Icon twin which came optimized for US networks, the Lumia 930 works on international bands.

20MP PureView camera with Carl Zeiss optics

The Nokia Lumia 930 comes with a 20MP PureView shooter with Carl Zeiss lens. If you’re unfamiliar with Nokia’s PureView technology, it’s a feature that the company debuted as a way to increase image fidelity by downscaling the 20MP images to 5MP. JPEGs by default.

FullHD video recording

The Lumia 930 camcorder can record video at [email protected], with a solid 19Mbps bitrate and an unwavering 30fps. By default, videos are recorded with dual-channel AAC audio at 256 Kbps, but you can also enable Dolby Digital Plus 5.1 recording, which will up the bitrate to 384 Kbps and record in six channels under the AC3 audio codec.

  • GPS receiver with A-GPS and GLONASS support

  • 32GB of inbuilt storage
  • microSD card slot, up to 64GB

Design and handling

The Lumia design has been pretty much set in stone but not without some variations. The Nokia Lumia 1520 is actually very similar to the Lumia 925. The difference to the Lumia 1020, for instance, is that the top and bottom edges are rounded rather than flat. Other than that, the rectangular look and beveled sides are an unmistakable trait of the Lumia line since its inception.

Battery life

The battery in the Lumia 1520 is sealed, but it has the reasonably big capacity of 3,400mAh. The phablet comes with built-in wireless charging, a feature that was missing in 1020. To make use of it however, you would have to buy separately a Qi wireless charger – these days those come in many shapes and sizes.

Display

The Nokia Lumia 1520 has a 6″ IPS LCD screen with 1080p resolution, the pixel density works out to 367ppi. The LCD incorporates Nokia’s ClearBlack tech – a set of polarizing filters, which minimize glare. Plus, Gorilla Glass 2 on top for protection.

20MP PureView camera

The Nokia Lumia 1520 has a brand new Nokia PureView camera. It uses a 1/2.5″ sensor with 20MP resolution. To put that in context, the sensor has 15% smaller surface area than the 20MP 1/2.3″ sensor in the Xperia Z1 and about a third of the size of the Lumia 1020’s PureView sensor. On the other hand, the Lumia 1520 camera imager is still almost twice the size of most of its competitors, and 30% larger than those who tout “big” 1/3″ sensors – like the iPhone 5s and the HTC One.

Video quality

Video recording also greatly benefits from the OIS and oversampling. Zoom is enabled even during video capture and it can go up to 3x in 1080p mode. The 1080p videos are recorded at 30fps by default, but you can also get a more cinematic feel with the 24fps and 25fps options. These are available for 720p resolution (but there’s no 60fps mode).

With a sufficiently large battery inside, Nokia quotes the Lumia 1320 at a maximum 3G talk time of 21 hours and 9 hours of video payback time. The Nokia Lumia 1320 boasts a 5 MP camera, which is capable of taking pictures of up to 2592×1936 pixel resolution.
