Xiaomi Mi 5 comes with 3D Touch. Xiaomi is currently working on the Mi 5 and one of the features that is rumored to be integrated with the next generation flagship is the 3-D Touch technology. Information coming out of China claims that the Chinese OEM has filed a patent application for a pressure-sensitive display that works similarly to the Force Touch introduce by Apple on the iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus earlier this year.

Leaksfly, a famous Chinese tech leaker, who, in the past, has accurately published information about upcoming gadgets way before the official launch, revealed that  Xiaomi is experimenting with 3-D Touch for future devices. The sources imply that Xiaomi is looking to use its own homemade pressure-sensitive technology, but the company might also team up with Synaptics which has introduced its own 3-D Force technology called “Clear Force.” Samsung Electronics, too, has been working with the computer company to install the technology on the upcoming Galaxy S7 due for unveiling in January next year.

3-D Force was made famous by Apple Inc. this year with the launch of the iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus that offer Force Touch. The feature allows users to perform specific tasks like zoom into a photograph or open an action menu similar to the “right-click” function of a PC mouse by adding pressure onto the screen. As the term implies, 3-D Touch offers three types of input: the tap, the press and the deep press.

Huawei also earlier this year went ahead of the pack and introduced the Huawei Mate S, a premium smartphone, which features the Force Touch.

It is still unclear whether the Mi 5 will be the first Xiaomi handset to feature 3-D Touch, which is slated to be unveiled before the end of the year. The Mi 5 will also be among the first devices to carry Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 according to rumors.
